In 1990 Richard Carter established Richard Carter Studio to provide an environment in which to stimulate creative and personal growth among committed ceramic artists through mutual exchange of ideas, techniques and philosophies. In the spring of 2000, Richard moved to his new location in Pope Valley and founded Pope Valley Pottery; in 2007, Richard returned to his roots, rechristening the Pottery to Richard Carter Studio. The new facility offers the same challenging and stimulating environment along with increased studio space, larger kiln facilities, a creek side campground, tent-cabins and resident housing. In addition to the Studio's facilities, many world famous wineries and restaurants, art museums, spas, mineral pools and mud-baths, are located within a short distance from the Studio.
